Hyderabad: Family members of 43-year-old housewife Kallepalli Upendra, a resident of Ramojipeta, Yadgirigutta, who was declared brain dead by a team of doctors, have donated her organs to needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.

On November 16, Kallepalli Upendra was returning home along with her husband Kallepalli Ilaiah on a two-wheeler when they were hit by a car. In the accident, both fell down and sustained injuries.

They were shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad but after emergency treatment, the health condition of the housewife did not improve. The doctors declared her brain dead on November 25.

Kallepalli Upendra’s husband Ilaiah made the decision to donate her organs including liver (one), heart (one), lungs (one) and kidneys (2), (in all five organs), to needy patients.

Senior Jeevandan officials extended gratitude to the family members of Kellepalli Upendra for deciding to donate organs.
