Hyderabad: Doctors at Yashoda Hospital have treated ‘lung attack’ successfully for the first time in India using Inari device.

Mali Rishikesh, a 20-year-old student from Karimnagar district, was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition after a blood clot formed in the pulmonary artery, the blood vessel that carries oxygen-depleted blood from the heart to the lungs. The blood flow to the lungs was stopped due to a ‘“pulmonary embolism’.

For the first time in India, Yashoda Hospitals doctors removed the blood clots using a state-of-the-art medical device called ‘pulmonary thrombectomy’ and gave Rishikesh a new life.

Yashoda Hospitals group, Director, Dr. Pavan Gorukanti, said Pulmonary embolism (PE) is like heart attack or brain stroke where a blood clot that typically originates from the deep veins of the legs breaks loose and travels through the bloodstream to the lungs, blocking a pulmonary artery or one of its branches.

To treat, the latest Inari medical device ‘Pulmonary Thrombectomy’ developed in USA, was used in Yashoda Hospitals for the first time in India, said Dr. Pavan Gorukanti.

Yashoda Hospital-Secunderabad, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. C. Raghu, said Pulmonary Thrombectomy (PT) is a minimally invasive procedure that helps to treat PE patients by removing blood clots from the lungs.

Doctors from multiple disciplines at Yashoda Hospital Secunderabad, Dr C Raghu Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Hari Kishan Interventional Pulmonologist, Dr Vikram Naidu Cardio-thoracic anaesthetist and Dr Hemalatha Cardiac Intensivist teamed together to treated the patient.
