Kothagudem: Yellandu town Inspector of Police, B Satyanarayana was suspended from services for his alleged rude behaviour with an elderly couple, according to a release from the SP office on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Multi-Zone-1, S Chandrasekhar Reddy issued the suspension orders against the CI for behaving rudely with the elderly couple and violating their rights while dealing with a dowry harassment case, the release said.

If any police officer or staff behaves rudely with the complainants who come to the police station, a departmental inquiry would be conducted and disciplinary action would be taken against them, warned the IGP.

According to sources, the case was related to an NRI Naveen Reddy from Yellandu now living in the US and against whom a complaint was lodged by his wife Shravya of Hyderabad.

The CI on June 19 summoned the NRI’s 67 year old father Ram Reddy Pendli, his mother Padmaja, their other son Hareesh Reddy and daughter-in-law to the police station based on the complaint filed by their daughter-in-law.

However, instead of proceeding legally, the CI reportedly kept the entire family in an unlawful confinement at the police station for eight to 12 hours without registering any case. The police official also subjected them to intimidation, denied them food and basic facilities and allegedly warned them against defending themselves.

It was reported that Padmaja collapsed due to fatigue and mental trauma, and was still recovering from the distressing experience. Following which the elderly couple lodged a complaint with the IGP explaining the rude behaviour of the CI.

Following directions from the IGP an enquiry was conducted and a report was submitted to the senior police officer by an official in Khammam police Commissionerate.

Based on the report the CI Satyanarayana was summoned to the IGP office on Tuesday for an explanation and was later served the suspension orders. It was learnt that the CI acted under pressure from a Kothagudem’s BJP leader who stood in favour of the NRI’s wife.
