YMCA Secunderabad to host B.M. Vinaysager knockout basketball tournament

YMCA Secunderabad Alumni will conduct the B.M. Vinaysager Knockout Basketball Tournament for men from April 20 to 24. The 16-team event, open to HYDBA-affiliated clubs, honours former player and coach Vinaysager’s contribution to basketball in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: YMCA Secunderabad Alumni will be conducting B M Vinaysager Knockout Basketball Tournament for Men at YMCA Secunderabad basketball courts from April 20 to 24.

The tournament is open to all affiliated clubs/departments/academies of The Hyderabad District Basketball Association.


Last date for entries is April 17 and will be restricted to a maximum of 16 teams on a first confirmation basis. Further details can be had from Dr G. Eugene George (9848755266) and S. Raja Reddy (9666600091) “”

John Vinaysagar, an alumni of Wesley Boys School, Secunderabad ,and hailing from a family in basketball with both his older brothers Charles Dayanand and Nicholes representing AP team, started his playing career at the YMCA Secunderabad under the tutelage of G M Sampath Kumar and went on to represent the Indian Schools team before joining South Central Railway.

Playing as a point guard, Vinaysager played alongside legends of the game like Arjuna Awardees Sarabjit Singh, Abbas Moontassir and internationals Kamal Pasha, Olympian D P Irani, Ali Pasha Quadri, Yadagiri Rao.

Vinaysagar who captained the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh for many years continued his contribution and as coach of the AP women guided the team to a medal position at the National Games. He was also coach of the South Central Railway team and makes his presence felt even now at basketball tournaments in and around the city.
