Mahabubabad: An 18-year-old girl has been found dead in the hillocks near Sitaram Thanda of Marripeda mandal in the district on Saturday. The parents alleged that she had been raped and murdered by unidentified persons. However, police sources observed that the girl had gone to the village outskirts along with her ‘friend’, a youngster from a neigbouring Thanda as they were in an ‘affair’.
When contacted, Mahabubabad SP Nandyala Koti Reddy said that they could ascertain the exact cause of the girl’s death only after getting the postmortem examination (PME) report.
Meanwhile, Minister for Tribal, Women and Child Welfare Satyavathi Rathod, in a statement issued here, said that she had directed both the District Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) to take immediate steps to arrest the culprit and ensure strict punishment for him. She also spoke to the parents of the girl in an attempt to console them and promised justice to them. The girl was studying intermediate second year in the Tribal Welfare Residential College at Marripeda. The Marripeda police have registered a case and shifted the body to the Government Area Hospital in Mahabubabad for autopsy.
