Youth dies on Valentine’s Day after suicide attempt over proposal rejection

A 22-year-old man from Narsapur in Medak district died at Gandhi Hospital after battling for life for 26 days following a suicide attempt. He had consumed weedicide after his marriage proposal was rejected, police said

Medak: A young man who attempted suicide on January 18 after his proposal was rejected by a woman in Narsapur town died on February 14 while undergoing treatment.

Illepu Naveen (22), a resident of Shivalayam Street in Narsapur town, had attempted suicide by consuming weedicide. After battling for life in hospital for 26 days, he breathed his last at Gandhi Hospital on Saturday, which coincided with Valentine’s Day.


According to family members, Naveen had fallen in love with a girl. His brother Srihari, in a complaint to the Narsapur police, stated that Naveen attempted suicide after the girl rejected his proposal. He was initially rushed to a government hospital in Narsapur. As his condition turned critical, doctors advised the family to shift him to Gandhi Hospital on January 21, where he succumbed on February 14.

Police registered a case and an investigation is underway.
