YSRCP chief alleges TDP-led coalition govt targeting BCs
YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the TDP-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh of deteriorating law and order, pursuing vindictive politics, and targeting Backward Classes. Speaking after meeting jailed MLA Virupakshi in Kurnool, he alleged false cases were being foisted on opposition leaders and BCs.
Panchalingala (Andhra Pradesh): YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday alleged that law and order had deteriorated in the state and accused the TDP-led coalition government of pursuing vindictive politics and targeting Backward Classes (BCs).
Speaking to reporters after meeting YSRCP MLA Virupakshi at the local jail here in Kurnool district, the former chief minister alleged that the government was filing false cases against victims and opposition leaders to silence them and was particularly targeting BCs, whom he described as the party’s support base.
“Law and order has deteriorated in the state, while the TDP-led coalition government is pursuing vindictive politics and targeting Backward Classes,” Reddy charged.
He alleged that the motive was to trouble political adversaries by foisting false cases and warned that those responsible would have to repent in the coming days.
There was no immediate reaction from the ruling TDP.
The YSRCP chief further alleged that false cases had been registered against Virupakshi, with the sitting MLA, his relatives and followers being booked in fabricated cases involving 38 people.
Police entered the MLA’s house at night, damaged CCTV cameras and arrested him while imposing serious charges, he claimed.
He further alleged that a TDP worker tore his wife’s clothes and blamed the incident on the MLA to enable police to invoke provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
He claimed police had refused to register a case despite being shown evidence of an attack on a YSRCP cadre’s house.
According to Reddy, Virupakshi had gone to rescue his followers after police allegedly failed to act when a party worker sent an SOS while being attacked. He said TDP workers attacked the car while Hari was being taken to safety, seriously injuring the MLA’s brother.
The former CM alleged that the government had been targeting BC leaders one after another.
He said the previous YSRCP government between 2019 and 2024 had introduced police reforms.
Reddy alleged that even when he went to meet the MLA, police photographed him from an inappropriate angle while he was standing.
