Hyderabad: ZEE5’s much-awaited Telugu web series Viratapalem: PC Meena Reporting is gearing up for release on June 27. Starring Abhignya Vuthaluru in the lead role, the show promises an intense storyline set in a superstitious village, with a strong female constable at its centre.
However, just days before its release, the show has landed in trouble.
ETV Win, another OTT platform, has accused ZEE5 of copying their original series Constable Kanakam. In a press meet held, Constable Kanakam director Prasanth Kumar Dimmala revealed that he had pitched the concept and submitted a full screenplay to ZEE5 long ago. He alleged that the platform used his work without approval to create Viratapalem: PC Meena Reporting.
He further added that Constable Kanakam, starring Varsha Bollamma, began filming in December 2024 and was officially registered as early as 2022. “We are not making loose claims. We have proof, and we’re moving forward legally,” he said.
The makers of Constable Kanakam have now taken legal action and are determined to protect their intellectual property. They insist this is not just about one show, but about respecting original creators across the industry.
As of now, ZEE5 has not released an official statement. With the release date approaching and legal action underway, the industry is watching closely to see how this clash unfolds.
