Nalgonda: Officials of different departments came under fire at a Zilla Parishad general body meeting here on Tuesday for not attending Mandal Parishad meetings and not answering phone calls of elected representatives.

Speaking at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting, Devarakonda MLA Ravindra Kumar Naik said it was unfortunate that officials of several departments had not turned up for the Mandal Parishad meeting of Chandampet which he attended. The MLAs have been attending the Mandal Parishad meetings to review implementation of development programmes and welfare schemes. But, officials were not available to provide information and submit reports on the progress of welfare schemes. Why the officials could not spare time to attend the meetings, he wondered.

Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav pointed out that several district-level officials had also skipped the Zilla Parishad general body meeting. Sending subordinates to the general body meeting was not acceptable, he clarified. He asked the District Collector to take action against the officials who skip the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad general body meetings.

Expressing strong displeasure over the officials’ attitude, MLC Tera Chinnapa Reddy said the administration in the district was very poor. Even after 18 months of him being elected as an MLC, no official met him when he came to Nalgonda. Mandal Parishad meetings were being conducted with very few officials, he added.

Telangana State Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy asked the District Collector to take steps to ensure presence of officials at Mandal Parishad meetings. Officials should also attend to phone calls from local bodies’ elected representatives as they would telephone them on the issues of the people, he added.

ZPTC and MPP members had complained to the Zilla Parishad Chairman Banda Narender Reddy about the absence of the officials in Mandal Parishad general body meetings. In response, the Collector instructed the district-level officials to save the phone numbers of elected representatives of local bodies and also attend to their phone calls without fail. A circular would be issued to ensure officials of all the departments attend Mandal Parishad general body meetings.
