Hyderabad: Eleven persons were injured when an LPG cylinder exploded in a building at Nanakramguda early on Tuesday.
The explosion occurred around 5 am in a three-storied residential building, in which around 50 persons, all natives of Bihar and working at construction sites, were staying. According to the police, the explosion was triggered by a leakage in the cylinder, with 11 persons getting injured.
“In the room where the explosion occurred, there were around 12 persons and most of them suffered burn injuries,” Gachibowli Sub-inspector Naveen Reddy said.
Fire officials said the occupants of the house might have forgot to turn off the regulator at night. “We suspect the gas leaked from the cylinder and when someone turned on a fan or light, it could have triggered the explosion,” a fire official said.
Soon after the explosion, the local police, Disaster Response Force teams and fire personnel rushed to the spot. All the injured persons were shifted to nearby hospitals by the police. Officials said the cylinder was a commercial one and that investigation was under way to find how a commercial gas cylinder was being used in the residential building.
Bomb Disposal Squad and CLUES teams visited the spot. The police have registered a case.
