Hyderabad: As part of the State government’s efforts to ramp up the existing medical infrastructure and bring healthcare closer to the poor, the government has decided to set up 12 new regional sub-centres across the State.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who held a marathon review meeting on the Covid situation at Pragathi Bhavan here on Monday, suggested the setting up of these regional sub-centres at Siddipet, Wanaparthy, Mahabubabad, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet, Bhongir, Jagitial, Mancherial, Bhupalpally, Vikarabad and Gadwal with necessary infrastructure to supply medicines to all government hospitals under their purview.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to immediately purchase or hire necessary vehicles to supply medicines from these regional sub-centres to the government hospitals. He also wanted them to equip these sub-centres with cold storage units to store medicines.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials to give priority to oxygen supply to the government hospitals where the poor undergo treatment and ensure that there was no oxygen shortage under any circumstance.

Rao pointed out that the State government had already issued GO 248 about 11 months ago fixing prices for treatment in private hospitals. The officials informed him that Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and other States were enforcing similar regulations. They explained that patients were paying on their own for the treatment in these private hospitals in those States.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister observed that there was decrease in Covid-19 admissions in government hospitals and increase in discharge of patients. He expressed happiness that measures like lockdown, fever survey, distribution of Covid-19 medical kits and other measures by the State government was yielding results. He also termed the increased recovery rate of Covid-19 patients as a good development. He asked the medical teams to constantly monitor the condition of people with Covid-19 symptoms identified during the fever survey until they are cured. He also appealed to the people not to panic about the Coronavirus.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao, Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar, MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Panchayat Raj Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Medical and Health Secretary SAM Rizvi, CMO Secretary and Covid-19 special officer Rajashekhar Reddy, IAS officers Sarfaraz Ahmed and Ronald Ross, Director of Health Srinivas Rao, Director of Medical Education K Ramesh Reddy, Kaloji Health University vice-chancellor Karunakar Reddy, Telangana State Medical Services & Infrastructure Development Corporation managing director Chandrashekhar Reddy, CM OSD (health) Gangandhar and other officials were present.
