Hyderabad: The State Government has incurred an expenditure of nearly Rs 100 crore to provide free dialysis facilities at 43 State-run dialysis centres to 12,000 chronic kidney patients, said Health Minister T Harish Rao.
Addressing senior doctors, nephrologists and members from the Jain community at a function held here on Saturday on the occasion of providing one million dialysis sessions at subsidised rates to needy kidney patients by Bhagwan Mahavir Jain Relief Foundation Trust (BMJRFT), Harish Rao said that since the formation of the State, the number of free dialysis facilities have gone up from 3 to 43 in Telangana.
The BMJRFT, which made a moderate beginning in 2009 by providing 16 dialysis sessions in a month to 500 a month, has managed to bring down the cost of each dialysis session to Rs 300 while private hospitals charge anywhere between Rs 1,200 and Rs 3,000.
The Foundation Chairman PC Parekh urged Harish Rao to intervene personally and revise Aarogyasri rates for dialysis, which was pending for many years. He urged the Minister to ensure quick processing and release of payment through Aarogyasri, which usually takes at least 7 to 8 months. Congratulating BMJRFT for the milestone, Harish Rao assured that a detailed meeting with the Health Department will be held to resolve any outstanding issues.
