12,602 irrigation tanks in Telangana receive surplus water

Hyderabad: As many as 12,602 tanks of the 43,870 received surplus water due to incessant rains that lashed the State last week.
In its status report, the Irrigation Department on Monday said that of the 12,602 tanks, 1,676 were from the territorial jurisdiction of Engineer-in-Chief in Gajwel while 1,512 from the limits of Chief Engineer in Warangal and 1,197 from the jurisdiction of Engineer-in-Chief in Karimnagar district.
Of the 1,131 tanks in Mulugu, 202 of them received water from major projects including J Chokka Rao Devadula lift irrigation scheme. Forty-nine of the 855 tanks in Adilabad were damaged after developing breaches. Around 10,850 tanks including 1,374 in Gajwel were filled with water between 75 per cent and 100 per cent, the report said, adding that all the tanks received rain water.
