Adilabad: SP Akhil Mahajan has advised people to remain cautious of cyber fraudsters and asked them not to share One Time Passwords (OTPs) with strangers.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Akhil said the district registered 15 cyber fraud cases this week. He said awareness and alertness play a vital role in preventing such crimes. He added that awareness was being created among the public by Cyber Warrior Teams and Khaki Kids. He advised people to immediately lodge complaints on the toll-free number 1930 if they were cheated.

The IPS officer further said that a dedicated team was working hard to resolve cyber fraud cases reported in the district. He said fraudsters were duping the public by posing as bank officials and threatening that their accounts would be frozen. He stated that stealing OTPs and confidential financial information by sending APK files was rampant these days.

According to the SP, a man from Adilabad town lost Rs 97,000 to a fraudster after downloading an APK file sent to his WhatsApp recently. Another man from Utnoor was duped of Rs 1.63 lakh under the guise of business on Instagram a few days ago. A resident of Neradigonda mandal lost Rs 40,000 after filling up a KYC form online.
