16 corporations in Telangana fail to spend even a rupee

Sixteen corporations and federations in Telangana have not spent a single rupee despite receiving funds from the State government. Data presented in the Assembly shows poor utilisation, with only Rs 305.60 crore spent out of Rs 3,198 crore released

Hyderabad: A few corporations and federations under the Congress government’s rule have secured a dubious distinction of failing to spend even a single rupee, besides lacking functional offices and staff.

After the Congress government came to power in the State, budget estimates for 33 corporations and federations were pegged at Rs 14,521.98 crore. Of these, Rs 3,198.07 crore was released in the last two-and-a-half years and only Rs 305.60 crore were utilised, the State government admitted during the Budget session in the Assembly.


Strikingly, of the 33 corporations and federations notified, 16 have failed to utilise even a single rupee from the amount released to them so far. The Valmiki/Boya Cooperative Societies Federation Limited, which received Rs 25 crore, did not spend any of the amount.

Similar is the case with Bhattraja Cooperative Societies Federation, Krishna Balija Poosala Cooperative Societies Federation, Medara Cooperative Societies Federation, Vishwabrahmin Cooperative Societies Corporation, Mudiraj Cooperative Societies Corporation, Munnuru Kapu Cooperative Societies Corporation, which utilised zero rupees from the Rs 25 crore released to each.

Even the BC Corporation, which had a budget allocation of Rs 1,370 crore, was released Rs 295.09 crore in the last two-and-a-half years. But it utilised only Rs 6.02 crore. Similarly, the MBC Corporation used only Rs 0.99 crore out of the Rs 101.70 crore released.

This apart, the State government has notified 33 welfare corporations, federations and special welfare board. Of these, only 16 corporations and federations have functional offices and staff. The government has appointed nine chairpersons out of the 22 corporations, reflecting the state of affairs.

Poor Fund Utilisation

• Rs 14,521.98 crore earmarked in Budget for 33 corporations and federations under Congress govt
• Of this, govt released Rs 3,198.07 crore over two-and-a-half years
• Total expenditure stood at only Rs 305.60 crore
• Several federations, including Valmiki/Boya, Bhattraja, Medara received Rs 25 crore each but reported zero expenditure
• Even major bodies such as BC Corporation, MBC Corporation recorded very low spending
