24 gates opened at Lakshmi barrage
Officials lifted the gates following heavy inflows into barrage from Maharashtra along with inflows from Pranahitha River joining the Godavari River
Hyderabad: The Irrigation department officials on Tuesday opened 24 gates out of 85 at the Lakshmi barrage to release 74,000 cusecs of water downstream.
Officials lifted the gates following heavy inflows into barrage from Maharashtra along with inflows from Pranahitha River joining the Godavari River. They said the inflows would touch 70,600 cusecs by Tuesday night and 74,000 cusecs by Wednesday.
“We are opening the gates only after assessing the inflows. A dedicated team assesses the water levels at the barrage on an hourly basis and gives information to senior officials. Based on inflows, we are opening gates,” official said.
