As of Thursday morning, both inflow and outflow at the barrage reached 71,900 cusecs, a sharp increase from Wednesday’s inflow of 31,900 cusecs, effectively doubling in just two days. However, not even a trickle could be utilised as all the 85 gates of the barrage were kept open draining the flood flow for want of barrage rehabilitation.
Engineer in Chief of Irrigation and Command Area Development Department C Muralidhar said the restoration of the portion of the barrage where few pillars were damaged would be completed by this summer
A conspiracy angle was being suspected after a small stretch of the bridge of the barrage appeared out of alignment, giving rise to apprehensions that the base of one of the 87 pillars could have sunk a bit.
