Hyderabad: A total of 274 units of blood were collected during blood camps organised in the Rachakonda Police limits over the last two days to help Thalassemia patients.

To help patients during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Rachakonda police had organised three blood donation camps in coordination with the Indian Red cross in Yadadri Bhongir Zone.

The initiative is a joint effort of the Rachakonda police and Indian Red Cross Society that was taken up at Bhongir and Yadgirigutta Town from 10 am to 2 pm on May 4, 5, and 6. Several youths from Bhongir, Yadgirgutta and Chottupal Towns, and nearby villages voluntarily walked into the camps to donate blood.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat appreciated all the good Samaritans.

“As mass Covid-19 vaccination is underway and blood donation is not accepted from people who have been vaccinated, a blood donation camp was organized well in advance to reserve blood for Thalassemia patients to tide over the crisis during the ongoing pandemic,” he said.

A group of 4 doctors and 10 nurses were present for conducting the camp at Chottupal on Wednesday.
