Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao exuded confidence that the people of Jubilee Hills had already decided the victory of BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha Gopinath in the upcoming bypoll necessitated by the demise of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath. Stating that the party’s win was assured, he asked party leaders to leave no stone unturned for a decisive majority.
He emphasised that a resounding BRS victory in Jubilee Hills would be more than a constituency win as it would mark the beginning of Telangana’s resurgence. He called upon the party cadre to work together with unity, determination and purity of purpose to protect the State’s future and restore the confidence of its people.
Chairing a three-hour-long preparatory meeting with party leaders here on Thursday, Chandrashekhar Rao directed the cadre to launch an intensive, door-to-door campaign to expose the ‘evil, destructive and deceitful’ rule of the Congress government. Urging them to connect directly with the people, he asked party workers to remind citizens about the welfare schemes implemented during the BRS regime and contrast them with the failures and false promises of the Congress government.
“The people of Telangana have been deceived for trusting the Congress. They are filled with anger and disillusionment,” he said, asserting that the by-election was an opportunity for citizens to reject the current government’s policies. “The people of Jubilee Hills have already confirmed the BRS victory. Now, your job is to ensure a massive majority,” he told party leaders.
Chandrashekhar Rao said the ruling party was fielding a rowdy sheeter’s family member in Jubilee Hills, which he said was an insult to Hyderabad’s educated electorate. “The Congress is challenging the intelligence of Jubilee Hills voters, but I am confident they will not allow such elements to represent them. They will protect the peace, dignity and safety of Hyderabad,” he said.
The former Chief Minister said the Congress government had turned Telangana into regression within a short span of time, pushing the State into financial distress and halting developmental progress. Advising party leaders to remind people how welfare schemes like KCR Kits, sheep and fish distribution, Mission Bhagiratha and Basti Dawakhanas once functioned effectively but were now defunct under Congress rule, he urged citizens to question the government for halting these initiatives and remove those responsible.
“Congress leaders who are demolishing poor people’s homes in the name of HYDRAA should be rejected,” he asserted.
Recalling the development achieved by the State under the BRS, Chandrashekhar Rao said Hyderabad was once competing with Mumbai and Delhi in real estate growth. “But due to the inept Congress policies, Hyderabad’s real estate sector has collapsed, and lakhs of people dependent on it have lost their livelihood,” he lamented, stating that even basic amenities such as electricity and drinking water, which were stable under the BRS, had now deteriorated.
Chandrashekhar Rao also recalled his government’s efforts to withstand challenges such as demonetisation and the COVID-19 pandemic without compromising development or welfare. “We strengthened Telangana’s economy by focusing on every sector, making it the number one State in growth rate. Today, that progress has been reversed. In just two years, the Congress has pushed Telangana to the bottom in economic growth,” he said, expressing anguish over the State’s fiscal decline.
The BRS president appreciated former IPS officer and BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar for revolutionising the State’s education sector through welfare residential schools and women’s degree colleges. “It pains me to see children dying in Gurukuls under the present regime,” he said, holding the Congress government accountable for neglecting such institutions.
He directed BRS leaders to prepare division-wise and cluster-wise strategies to maximise voter turnout. “People are ready to vote for BRS. Your responsibility is to ensure that every vote is cast,” Chandrashekhar Rao said. He cautioned voters about the dangers of electing rowdy elements and reminded them of Maganti Gopinath’s service-oriented leadership. “He lived among the people and earned their affection. It is the people’s duty to safeguard progress by electing Sunitha Gopinath with a thumping majority,” he said.
Party working president KT Rama Rao, senior leaders T Harish Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and several former Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and local leaders attended the strategy meeting. Party in-charges reported strong grassroots response in favour of the BRS candidate.
