Hyderabad: A total of 183 units of blood were collected during blood camps organised in the Rachakonda Police limits over the last two days to help Thalassemia patients. The camps, organised jointly by Rachakonda Police and the Indian Red Cross Society, were held at Bhongir and Yadagirigutta towns from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Several youths from Bhongir and Yadagirigutta and nearby villages voluntarily walked into the camp to donate blood. The Red Cross Society stated that the donated blood would be used for saving the lives of Thalassemia patients, emergency and accident victims across Telangana.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat urged youngsters to donate blood for Thalassemia patients during the pandemic.
“As mass Covid-19 vaccination is underway and blood donation is not accepted from people who have been vaccinated, a blood donation camp was organised well in advance to reserve blood for Thalassemia patients to tide over the crisis during the ongoing pandemic,” officials said.
