Adilabad: Three more staffers of District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) were arrested for their alleged role in the swindling of Rs 2.85 crore from Bhela branch of the financial institution and recovered Rs 29 lakh in cash from one of them. They were produced before pressmen here on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police D Uday Kumar Reddy said that the accused persons were Bandi Ramesh, a clerk of Bhela branch, Y Ranitha, assistant manager and A Rahul, another clerk of the same branch. Bandi Ramesh was detained when he was proceeding to a court in Adilabad. Ranitha and Rahul were also taken into custody.


During the course of investigations, Ramesh confessed to be involved in receiving funds Rs 1.38 crore of the branch transferred to his account by the kingpin of the scam Sripath Kumar. He admitted that he had repaid Rs 40 lakh to Sripath, while Rs 46.63 lakh were recovered by the officials of DCCB. He revealed that he used Rs 17 lakh for luxuries and Rs 5.89 lakh were already frozen.

Cases were booked against 15 persons including 11 staffers of Bhela branch of the bank under the Section 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 409 (Criminal breach of trust by a banker) of the Indian Penal Code and investigations were taken up. Gaddam Srinivas, the general manager of the branch lodged a complaint with police. Sripath, a clerk of the bank and addict of online betting was already apprehended on March 19.

Adilabad DSP NSV Venkateshwar Rao, Jaintha Inspector K Naresh Kumar and other police officials were present.
