33 motorists jailed for drunk driving in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: As many as thirty-three persons caught by the Cyberabad Traffic Police in six days on charges of drunk driving were sent to jail for durations ranging from one day to five days. A total fine of Rs 16.1 lakh was imposed on traffic violators.
According to the Cyberabad Traffic Police, the 33 persons were among 396 persons caught for drunk driving and without driving licence during regular vehicle checking between December 6 and December 11, at various places across the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. All those caught were produced before a court, which imposed a total fine of Rs 16.1 lakh on violators of drunken driving rule and over Rs 2 lakh on those without driving licence.
According to the police, 12 persons caught at Miyapur were imprisoned for drunk driving, followed by Balanagar with 8 persons, Kukatpally with 5 persons, Madhapur and Gachibowli with four persons each. The driving licenses of all the persons caught drunk were being sent to the Regional Transport Authority concerned for suspension of the license, officials said.
