40 persons sent to jail for drunk driving in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: Forty persons caught by the Cyberabad Traffic Police for drunk driving were sentenced to imprisonment by a local court here on Tuesday.
They were sentenced for durations ranging from one day to seven days apart from fine.
The Traffic Police had caught 141 persons for drunk driving during regular vehicle checking on Monday midnight at various places across the Commissionerate. Officials said all those caught were produced before court, which imposed a total fine of Rs 6.1 lakh on them.
According to the police, Rajendranagar stood in first place with 59 persons caught for drunk driving, followed by Miyapur with 23 persons, Kukatpally with 22 persons, Balanagar and Madhapur with 13 persons each while Gachibowli had 11 persons.
Apart from this, the court also sentenced 51 persons to imprisonment for driving without a valid driving license. Officials said the driving licenses of all persons caught for drunk driving will be sent to the Regional Transport Authority concerned for suspension.
