40 rescued under Operation Smile-XI in Telangana’s Kothagudem

Kothagudem: As many as 40 children were rescued and reunited with their parents as part of Operation Smile-XI aimed at eradicating child labour, informed district Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju.

The operation was successfully conducted across the district with the coordination of all departments, involving five special teams. Of the 40 rescued, 33 were boys and seven girls. Cases were registered against 27 persons for employing child labourers, he said.

The SP said that it was the responsibility of all to protect the rights of children and urged the public to work responsibly for the eradication of child labour. If anyone comes to know that children are being employed, they should immediately call ‘dial 100’ to inform the police. Meanwhile, the SP appreciated Operation Smile-XI special teams.

161 rescued in Warangal, says CP 
Warangal Commissioner of Police Ambar Kishore Jha informed that 161 children working in various areas under the Warangal Police Commissionerate have been rescued under Operation Smile-XI.

The police, in collaboration with the Child Welfare Department, Child Line and Labour Department, conducted joint inspections in various areas of Hanamkonda, Warangal and Jangaon districts under the commissionerate limits.

Of the 161, 137 were boys and 24 girls. They were shifted to child welfare homes. Of those shifted to child welfare homes, 92 were from Telangana and 69 from other States. Cases were registered against seven shop owners who employed the children, the CP said.

During the inspections, a girl from Uttar Pradesh was identified through the Darpan App and the girl was handed over to her parents. “Inspections will continue and strict action will be initiated against those who engage children in work, the CP warned.
