Hyderabad: Law Minister A Indrakaran Reddy said the State government had accorded permission for the construction of 46 new courts, besides sanctioning 1,733 posts in 2020- 21 to expedite legal proceedings and speedy disposal of cases. The government also allocated Rs 51.59 crore for the construction of new court buildings, he said, adding that this was in addition to Rs 209.53 crore proposed in the current Budget.
To clear POCSO cases and ensure punishment to offenders, 36 fast track courts have been approved by the State Government. Further, 504 posts have also been sanctioned for the same, he said, speaking in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Pointing out that Telangana was the only State to set up a Rs 100 crore fund for the welfare of advocates, the Minister said that under this initiative, till date, 20,773 advocates and 58, 835 family members of advocates have been extended Rs 2 lakh health insurance coverage. Of these, 4,213 have utilised the policy, he said.
In addition to this, a group personal accident policy was also being offered to advocates and Rs 10 lakh financial assistance will be extended under the policy. As many as 21,336 advocates have been covered under this policy, he informed.
The Telangana Advocates Welfare Trust has spent Rs 30.91 crore towards insurance. In view of the hardships due to the Corona pandemic, Rs 25 crore has been sanctioned for the Trust to support the lawyers, he said. Under this initiative, 14,886 lawyers have been extended Financial assistance of Rs 16,000 each and Rs 8,000 each to 1,054 lawyers clerks, he explained.
From April to December 2020, 1,733 persons were extended free legal services. Under the collaboration of the legal services authority, 52,007 cases were disposed by conducting Lok Adalat, besides offering Rs 159.84 crore, he added.
