Hyderabad: Winter breezes bring with them something undeniably electric in the air and you know we’ve made it to the best time of the year – Diwali! With get-togethers and socialising at the peak of the year, Diwali bashes across the country make a comeback: with a round of teen-patti on most people’s minds accompanied by the season’s best sweets and savouries adding to the celebrations.
Seems like a season for intimate and wholesome hanging with friends and ‘plus one’. So, if you are looking for a perfect ‘plus one’ by your side, Tinder member and 19-year-old fashion student Anjani Sharma from Delhi shares these tips and tricks that will help you stumble across the ‘right one’!
Look for the (obvious) signs
Finding a match online is as good as finding a needle in a haystack. You have got to look for signs and signs there are many online. The blue tick you see next to the name and age on someone’s profile is, therefore, among the first things you should look for. It means that the profile is verified, and the person is likely to be someone of honest intentions. And while you’re at it, try and get the blue tick against your name too, if it isn’t already there.”
Look before you leap (into anything)
Verified profiles are great, but most of us would prefer to actually see someone before meeting them on a date. Looks aren’t everything, but well… they aren’t nothing either. Make use of in-app video-calling features on dating apps like Tinder that allows users to see each other, verify their match is genuine, and check for chemistry before an IRL date – all this without giving out any of your personal contact details and without leaving the app.
Make sure they like strangers
Chances are your plus one date won’t know anyone there — and you, as the invited guest, will know a handful of people there. To avoid being your plus one’s babysitter all night, find someone who can hold a conversation on his or her own. Someone who enjoys meeting new people and talking to strangers.
Set boundaries and realistic expectations
People have increasingly become more honest and open about their expectations on boundaries and consent, especially on dating apps. Stick to that and you’ll most probably avoid an awkward uncalled-for incident mid-date! Paint a realistic picture of you as a person and you would be well-advised to connect with people who share this outlook.
Find a tribe with whom you can vibe
The newly-introduced Explore page feature, in addition to the usual swipe mode, gives you an extra edge to find the right peeps who will match your vibe based on your interests. It includes a range of topics from food to gaming to music so you can just choose your tribe. And one of the best things about it is that you can See Only Verified Members (so no more horse faces, if you know what I mean).
There are no sure ways of finding the right companion, whether online or in real life. But we can certainly put our best foot forward and hope that it lands it on safe ground. May you find the perfect ‘patakha’ this Diwali! Play safe.
