Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Anti-Human Trafficking Unit police along with the Child Protection officials raided a bangle manufacturing unit at Wadi-e-Saleheen at Balapur and busted an inter-state human trafficking racket and arrested three persons here late on Monday night. Officials rescued six children, all from Bihar, who were forced into child labour.
Police said the suspects, taking advantage of their financial status had lured the parents of the children with money and exploited them. The arrested were identified as Sahib Akhthar (38), Ahmed Hussain (40), and Mohd.Musawwir Alam (36), all bangle-making traders from Shaheen Nagar in Balapur and natives of Bihar.
According to the police, Akhtar was running a bangle unit at Balapur in rented premises with the help of his associates Hussain and Alam and had trafficked children from poor families in Bihar promising them good jobs.
“Here, they were forced to work in a bangle manufacturing unit for more than 15 hours a day. They were kept under unhygienic conditions resulting in health issues to them. They were confined and crammed into a single room and not allowed to move freely,” said an official, adding that the children were not even provided good food and were treated as bonded labourers. Based on a tip-off, the officials raided the premises and rescued them. They were handed over to Child Welfare officials while the suspects were produced before the court.
