Hyderabad: Rising to a towering 69 feet, the hugely popular Khairatabad Ganesh this year will bless devotees as ‘Sri Vishwashanthi Maha Ganapathi’.
The image of the idol, which will be a feet less compared to last year’s height of 70 feet, was unveiled during the traditional ‘Karra Puja’ here on Friday. According to the organisers, the eco-friendly Ganapathi to be built with clay will involve around 150 skilled artisans from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
Raj Kumar Singari, Chairman of the Ganesh Utsav Committee, said the main material for the idol, clay, will be brought from Gujarat and all the eco-friendly colours will be prepared in the city itself.
The Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on August 27, and the committee has decided to complete the idol preparation by August 20, said Rajendrian, sculptor of the idol. He has been making the Khairatabad Ganesh every year for more than four decades.
The Utsav Committee has also decided to have eco-friendly 15 feet idols of Sri Lakshmi Sametha Hayagreeva Swamy and Sri Gajjalamma Devi, flanking either side of the main idol. Two other smaller idols of Sri Jagannatha Swamy and Lalitha Tripura Sundari will be made of clay and kept at the main Ganesh idol.
