Hyderabad: Schools across Hyderabad and districts in the State are likely to be disrupted on Tuesday following a statewide bandh call given by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), over a host of issues related to school education. Already, several private and corporate educational institutions in Hyderabad have declared a holiday on Tuesday, in anticipation of trouble during the bandh.

The ABVP, which is spearheading the state-wide schools bandh, has alleged that the State government is negligent towards government schools and it has failed to regulate escalating fee structures in private schools.

The ABVP State Secretary, Macharla Rambabu has appealed to students, parents, and school managements to cooperate with the shutdown on Tuesday.

Criticizing Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, who holds the education portfolio, the ABVP leader alleged that the Chief Minister is acting as a ‘brand ambassador’ for private and corporate educational institutions rather than safeguarding government schools.

“The state government is laying out a red carpet for corporate schools and allowing them to financially exploit families through unchecked fee hikes. The State government must immediately halt its proposed rationalization policy, which will lead to closure of 23,000 government schools across Telangana,” he said.

The ABVP demanded immediate enactment of a strict law to cap fee structures implemented by private and corporate management and proper implementation of a 25 percent free seat quota for economically weaker sections in private institutions.

The ABVP noted that despite schools reopening for the new academic year, thousands of students have yet to receive their government-issued school uniforms.

The ABVP also demanded immediate recruitment to clear backlogs for teaching and non-teaching positions, alongside critical administrative vacancies like Mandal Education Officers (MEO) and District Education Officers (DEO).

There is a need to construct permanent buildings for residential Gurukul schools and stringent quality control on mid-day meals has to be implemented to completely eliminate instances of food poisoning, ABVP said.
