Peddapalli: Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths trapped an Assistant Engineer of the Irrigation department allegedly while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor in Peddapalli on Monday.
According to ACB officials, AE Narsinga Rao demanded a bribe from contractor Thammadaboina Srinivas to record in the measurement book (MB) of the work done by the latter. Srinivas had done work worth Rs 90,000 in Kachapur of Julapalli mandal. The AE, who demanded half of the amount to record the MB, finally settled for Rs.20,000.
Srinivas approached ACB who hatched a plan and trapped AE while accepting Rs 20,000 from the contractor. Surprisingly, AE took the amount from the contractor at a tea stall in front of the collectorate office.
ACB sleuths, who hid nearby, detained the AE while accepting the bribe. Later, ACB police took the AE to the Executive Engineer office for questioning and examined the records.
