Act tough against human trafficking: Khammam DCP

Khammam: DCP Injarapu Pooja asked the police officials to make efforts for the effective implementation of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA) to prevent human trafficking.

She released a publicity poster brought out by the Society for Community Participation and Education in Rural Development (SCOPE-RD) here on Friday making World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.


Speaking on the occasion, Pooja expressed concern over the increasing violence in society and child and human trafficking cases. As per statistics about 95 per cent of persons who were subjected to trafficking were forced to work as sex workers.

As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data in recent times as many 6, 616 persons have become victims of human trafficking. In Khammam an Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) has been established to prevent human trafficking, she informed while asking the public to extend cooperation by dialing emergency numbers 100 and 1098 to alert police on such incidents.

SCOPE-RD director ML Prasad said this year’s theme for the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons highlights the importance of listening to and learning from survivors of human trafficking. Child Welfare Committee chairperson Bharati Rani, Childline coordinator K Srinivas and others were present.
