Adhikari attacks Left student groups at JU, calls for ousting ‘anti-national’ forces

West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari attacked Left student groups at Jadavpur University over ‘Azadi’ slogans and references to slain Maoist leader Kishenji. Speaking at a Raksha Bandhan event, he urged people to oppose forces he accused of weakening India

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, on Friday launched a scathing attack against the Leftist students’ group at the prestigious Jadavpur University (JU) and gave a call for ousting those forces from within the university campus who are raising slogans like “Kashmir Mange Azadi” or writing slogans in support of slain Maoist leader Koteswar Rao alias Kishenji, who was killed in a police encounter in West Bengal in November 2011.

“It hurts me when the slogans of Azadi are raised on the streets of Kolkata. What is Azadi? The country achieved Independence a long time back. ‘Red Salute Kishenji’ is written on the walls of Jadavpur University. What is a section of the new generation up to? Who is this Kishenji? He is one who did not believe in the India Constitution. On this auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, we must take an oath to get rid of them like the garbage in our house,” Chief Minister Adhikari said while addressing a program on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan in his own constituency of Bhabanipur in South Kolkata on Friday afternoon.

Speaking on the occasion, he cautioned the people to be careful of those who had been trying to weaken the country from inside.

“We have the Indian Army to handle external enemies. The Indian Air Force also wiped them out. But there are many inside the country, who are trying to weaken the nation from inside. We have to be careful about them and wipe them out,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to attend two other programs on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the first at Nazrul Manch at South Kolkata and the other at JU.

“Later in the day I will be going to JU and participate in a programme where 10,000 voices will sing the full version of Vande Mataram. I request those who have the time to attend that program,” the Chief Minister said.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister Adhikari celebrated Raksha Bandhan with police personnel.
