Hyderabad: After allegations of extracting commissions from contractors, Congress party leaders are now being accused of extorting them, with contractors and companies allegedly being warned of dire consequences if they failed to shell out the amounts demanded.
One such incident came to light in Jogulamba Gadwal after Shree Bhramara Infrastructures Private Limited (SBIPL) lodged a complaint against the henchmen of former Congress MLA from Alampur, SA Sampath Kumar.
According to the complaint, on January 6, Y Jaipal Reddy, A Peterson and four others visited an underpass construction site at Vemula village on National Highway 44, forcibly stopped the work and assaulted staff and labourers with weapons. They also threatened them with dire consequences if the work continued, SBIPL said in the complaint lodged with the Station House Officer at Kodandapuram police station in Itikyala.
“They said they were sent by former Alampur MLA SA Sampath Kumar to stop the work. They also advised the staff to inform the company management to settle the issue by paying ransom amount demanded at an early date for peaceful execution of the work,” the complainant said.
Copies of the complaint are now being shared widely on social media platforms.
Since January 6, nearly 115 personnel at the site have refused to work for fear of their lives, while machinery operators have also expressed their inability to work under such dangerous conditions, the company management said.
Interestingly, despite a complaint being lodged with the police, Superintendent of Police Srinivas Rao said no complaint was submitted to him as he was ‘on leave’. No FIR has been registered so far, sources said.
