AIADMK expands manifesto with 10 new welfare promises

Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced ten additional welfare measures in the party’s manifesto for the Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, taking the total promises to 307 from 297. Polling for 234 Assembly seats here will be held on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.
To curb crimes against women, the AIADMK said it would set up 24/7 monitoring “war rooms” in all district headquarters.
In a statement, Palaniswami said that if the AIADMK comes to power, 10 lakh selected unemployed youth would receive Rs 10,000 each as a subsidy to purchase a two-wheeler.
He also said that government TV cable monthly charges would be reduced by 50 per cent. A special counselling team would be formed to help college students access job opportunities and prepare for competitive examinations.
He further said that, for the welfare of mango farmers, steps would be taken to introduce a minimum support price. A single-window system would also be introduced to provide licences within 30 days for youth seeking to start Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The AIADMK leader also announced that women engaged in small-scale cashew cultivation in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts would receive cashew shelling machines free of cost. He said that a solatium of Rs 20 lakh would be provided to the families of persons who die after accidentally falling from palm trees.
Similarly, financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh would be given to the families of construction workers who die after accidentally falling from buildings. The AIADMK chief added that a government order would be issued to celebrate the Adhukattu festival (also known as Eruthazhuvuthal or jallikattu) traditionally in Krishnagiri district.
