Yadadri-Bhongir: The Department of Psychiatry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibinagar, in association with the Indian Psychiatric Society, on Thursday conducted a symposium on “Covid-19, Pregnancy and Mental Health.”
Speaking on the topic, psychiatrist from NIMHANS, Bangalore, Professor Dr Prabha Chandra said the pandemic had brought the world to a standstill and people were going through lifetime experiences such as isolation, lockdown, and quarantine.
“All these new experiences have had an impact on mental health of the people. Women in general and pregnant women, in particular, are likely to develop multiple stress-related mental health issues due to the pandemic. Hence, doctors should also keep in mind the impact of Covid on the mental health of pregnant women and must give counseling to them, if required,” he said. There was a need to clear the doubts among the people over Covid vaccination of pregnant women, he added.
Executive Director of Bibinagar AIIMS Dr Vikas Bhatia, Associate Professors, Dr Naina Kumar, Dr Rohini Motwani, Dr R Shyamala and others also attended the symposium.
