Yadadri-Bhongir: Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibinagar, Dr Vikas Bhatia on Saturday stressed the need for rational use of medicines and monitoring adverse reactions by the medical fraternity for safety of patients.

Inaugurating week-long programmes planned at AIIMS campus in connection with National Pharmacovigilance Week, Dr Vikas Bhatiya said that Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center (AMC) of Bibinga, AIIMS, was working on imparting knowledge to the doctors on Pharmacovigilance, which was also known for patient safety measure. It is working towards contributing in the dynamic process of pharmacovigilance of all medicinal products.

He said the National Coordination Center for Pharmacovigilance Program of India and the Indian Pharmacopeia Commission decided to observe National Pharmacovigilance Week under the theme “Pharmacovigilance – A step towards patient safety” this year. He opined that there was a need to create awareness in common people about the importance of adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting, which would help the doctors to ensure patient safety treatment.

Dr Nitin John, Dean (Academics), Dr Neeraj Agarwal, Medical Superintendent, Dr Shyamala of Department of Microbiology, AIIMS and others also attended the programme.
