Hyderabad: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has been helping voters in Hyderabad with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls since March. The party has launched an awareness campaign and set up help centres to ensure that eligible voters complete the process without any difficulty.
AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns over the SIR exercise at several public meetings and media interactions. While criticising the exercise, he had said the Election Commission does not have the power to decide a person’s citizenship. At the same time, he has stressed that no genuine voter should be removed from the electoral rolls.
In March, the party opened special help desks at its headquarters, Darussalam, to guide people through the SIR process. Party workers explained the required documents, helped with the elector mapping process and answered people’s queries.
The AIMIM later expanded the programme by opening more assistance centres in different parts of Hyderabad. Trained volunteers have been helping people fill out forms, check their details and complete the required formalities. Senior citizens, women and others needing assistance have also been receiving help.
The party is now taking the campaign door to door by sending local leaders, corporators, booth-level workers and volunteers to meet voters in their neighbourhoods. They are creating awareness about the SIR process and helping eligible voters complete the required procedures so that no genuine voter is left out.
As part of the campaign, Asaduddin Owaisi has visited several areas in his Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency. During these visits, he explained the SIR process, its importance and the steps voters need to follow to complete the exercise within the given time.
