Hyderabad: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi slammed the State government over procedural lapses leading to delays in Assembly proceedings. He questioned the suspension of BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy, arguing that the established practices were not followed.
“Undoubtedly, the Speaker is the custodian of the House and has all the authority. Before suspending a member, all floor leaders should have been consulted, but no such meeting was held,” he pointed out.
Participating in the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly on Thursday, Owaisi said as per established practices, whenever there was any disturbance in the House, all the floor leaders were to be called for discussion to sort out the issue. “But no such meeting was called. Further, the floor leaders were also not allowed to give their opinion before suspending the member,” he said.
Owaisi urged the government to uphold democratic norms and ensure the Assembly functions transparently. He reminded that the House was adjourned for 15 minutes, but met only after four hours, setting wrong precedence. “We waited outside with no clarity on when the session would resume,” he added.
He also raised concerns over the limited time allocated for the State Budget discussion, calling it a mere formality rather than a meaningful debate. He criticised the Congress government for cramming multiple subjects into just four days, undermining the essence of legislative scrutiny.
