Adilabad: The six-day-long All India Tiger Estimation-2026 concluded across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Sunday.
Officials said that the pugmarks of two tigers were recorded during the survey in the district. However, the data on wild animals would be disclosed once it is compiled and analysed. The exercise was carried out in 576 beats under Kawal Tiger Reserve, encompassing Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. Volunteers from various States were drawn to conduct the survey.
Forest officials said that 244 teams comprising forest staffers and volunteers were deployed to carry out the two-phased survey in 244 beats in 11 ranges of two divisions, Asifabad and Kagaznagar, in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. The teams assessed the population of carnivores in a survey titled transect walk held in the first three days, while trail walks were organised to enumerate herbivores, birds, grasses, etc in the remaining three days.
In Mancherial district, 195 teams covered 195 beats. As many as 150 staffers and 90 volunteers were selected to organise the census in 11 ranges spanning four divisions such as Mancherial, Jannaram, Chennur and Bellampalli. A total of 171 teams were deployed in Adilabad district, which accounted for 171 beats in three divisions and nine ranges.
Similarly, 122 teams estimated the population of carnivores and herbivores in Nirmal district. The teams comprised around 250 members, including forest staffers and volunteers. The teams would begin the survey at 6 am and end at 8.30 pm.
