Kumram Bheem Asifabad: The stage is set for the second edition of Bird Walk to be hosted by the Forest department, Kumram Bheem-Asifabad district unit in different important habitats of the winged wonders in Kaghaznagar Forest Division on Saturday and Sunday.
District Forest Officer S Shantaram said that elaborate arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of the event aimed at exposing forest wealth to enthusiastic bird watchers, wildlife photographers, researchers and nature lovers belonging to several parts of Telangana. About 60 participants are expected to take part in the walk.
According to the DFO 21 spots were identified for organising the event. Food, accommodation and transportation facilities are going to be provided to participants, by charging Rs 2,000 per head. The participants would report at the office of Kaghaznagar Forest Divisional Officer on Friday at 7 pm and would leave for their destinations at 9 pm.
The birding spots of this edition include irrigation tanks, river fronts, a vulture project near Nandigaon village in Penchikalpet mandal and some important habitats situated in Penchikalpet, Kaghaznagar, Sirpur (T), Bejjur and Koutala forest ranges. Around 270 bird species were already discovered in Kaghaznagar forest division. Some more species are likely to be spotted during this event.
During the first edition of Bird Walk held in 2019, nearly 150 wildlife photographers and members of Hyderabad Birding Pals and enthusiastic bird watchers, students, researcher, wildlife photographers and nature lovers from several parts of Telangana and neighbouring Maharashtra and Pondicherry entered into the dense forests and important habitats of the birds and clicked their photographs. About 100 bird species including migratory and rare ones were discovered.
In the meantime, Collector Rahul Raj, DFO Shantharam, Superintendent of Police (Administration) YVS Sudheendra unveiled a wall poster of the Bird Walk at Kumram Bheem-Asifabad district headquarters on Friday.
