Khammam: As many as 36,804 students of ninth and tenth standards would be attending classes in 456 schools across the district from February 1, District Collector RV Karnan said on Thursday.
The District Collector directed the authorities at government educational institutions, social welfare hostels and managements of private institutions in district to be ready for the start of the academic year 2020-21.
The Collector made a surprise inspection of Government Women’s Degree College, Junior College and BC (Girls) Hostel in the city to take stock of the arrangements being made for the reopening of the colleges.
Karnan inspected classrooms, hostel rooms and other facilities. He said officials concerned were told to ensure that all students attending classes were wearing face masks.
He said the classes for ninth and tenth standard students would be run at 275 government and 178 private schools. Around 2,290 classrooms have been readied to run classes by following Covid norms.
Municipalities and gram panchayat authorities were directed to carry out sanitation works at the schools. Seating arrangements must be made in accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the State government.
Care must be taken to see that the students would maintain social distance in the classes and at dining halls at the hostels. Students must be served fresh and nutritious food duly following the government prescribed menu, Karnan said.
A team comprising legal metrology officials and food inspectors has been formed to conduct inspections at social welfare hostels to check the quality of food. The headmasters and principals have to closely monitor the attendance of the students.
In case any student suffered from any kind of illness he or she should immediately be shifted to the local government hospital and given medical care, the Collector said.
