Hyderabad: Buoyed by the response from visitors for safari rides and trekking in Nallamala forests, Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) is now planning to launch a trek to the historic Prataparudra Fort in Mannanur limits.
ATR launched safari rides and treks in the forests last month and the response from visitors is encouraging as the weekend slots are booked till January. There are few slots available during weekdays. “There is a good response from visitors. All the 12 slots offered in a day are getting booked almost every day and for weekends the slots are booked till January,” said a senior official from ATR.
As part of the safari rides, visitors are taken into the forest through the Farahabad gate and exit through the Gundam gate. The entire ride covers about 50 km, including 20 km in the forests. Similarly, visitors trek from Mannanur to Umamaheswaram temple in the jungle.
Now, ATR officials are working to launch a trek to the historic Prataparudra Fort, Mannanur. At present, the fort is in a dilapidated condition and hardly any people visit the place. The Fort is about three km from Community Based Eco-Tourism Centre (CBEC), Mannanur. Besides, facilitating trekking opportunities for visitors, the move to launch trek to the fort will aid in curbing anti-social activities and regular monitoring by forest personnel.
The Fort is on the forest fringes and not many people visit the place. Taking advantage, a few people consume alcohol and indulge in other irregularities, including laying traps to capture wild animals, said the official. “Further, from the department perspective, the move to launch trekking to the fort will aid in better maintenance of the place and keep a constant watch on activities around the place,” said the official. This will also offer a new experience for the Amrabad visitors, besides learning about local history and safeguarding the structure.
