Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare and development of Backward Classes, asserting that sustained efforts are being made to uplift them.

A delegation of Andhra Pradesh BC Welfare Association leaders, led by state president Kesana Shankara Rao and National President J Srinivas Goud, met the chief minister and submitted representations outlining key demands.

“The (state) government remains committed to the welfare and development of BCs; the people’s government is continuously working for the upliftment of their communities,” Naidu said in an official press release.

They urged the chief minister to take up the issue of providing reservations to BCs based on population proportion with the Union government. They also demanded a law to protect backward communities, early.

The delegation further demanded implementation of 34 per cent reservations in local bodies, establishment of a separate ministry for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) at the Union government and introduction of an OBC sub-plan with dedicated budget allocation and filling backlog vacancies in government departments.

Responding to the representations, Naidu assured that issues under the purview of the Central Government would be taken up through consultations, and efforts would be made to address them.

He reiterated that the NDA coalition government would ensure justice and equitable opportunities for BC communities across sectors.

The BC leaders expressed confidence that the welfare and progress of BCs are best achieved under the current coalition government and appreciated various initiatives taken by the state, said the press release.
