The state government has taken the decision to vaccinate the mothers in the wake of reports that the Covid third wave would have its effect on children, and on the recommendation of a task force committee set up to look into the issue. It has issued orders saying that all eligible mothers should be vaccinated and their lists should be prepared village-wise.

The eligible mothers will be issued token one day before and will be shifted to Covid vaccination centres by health workers at the appointed hour for administering the vaccine.

Mothers will also be allowed to stay in hospital to take care of Covid-infected children. It is estimated that the number of eligible mothers in the state would be between 15 lakh to 20 lakh.
