Nirmal: Thousands of devotees thronged the Sri Pochamma Temple in Adelli village of Sarangapur mandal as the two-day annual Ganganeella Jatara concluded on Sunday.
Devotees from several parts of Nirmal, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Warangal districts, as well as neighbouring Maharashtra, visited the temple and offered special prayers. Some sacrificed chickens and goats as an expression of gratitude for the fulfilment of their wishes and for the well-being of their families. The usually quiet village came alive with the arrival of thousands of devotees.
On Saturday, the deity’s jewellery was ceremonially taken in a grand procession to Sangvi village, where it was purified with water from the Godavari. The procession passed through Adelli, Sarangapur, Yakarpalli, Vanjar, Pyaramur, Kadili, Mategaon, Dilawarpur and Kanjiri villages before the jewellery was brought back to the temple in the evening.
The deity was then adorned with the jewellery and worshipped before devotees were allowed to have darshan.
Nirmal Superintendent of Police Dr Janaki Sharmila carried the goddess’s jewellery during its procession towards Adelli village. She was felicitated by the temple priests and governing body.
Sharmila said security arrangements had been made to prevent any untoward incidents. Priests and members of the temple’s governing council also participated in the event.
