Hyderabad: Just days after a daring daylight robbery in Bidar where robbers decamped with Rs 93 lakh cash meant for filling the SBI ATM, another one shook Karnataka on Friday morning.

A group of five to six men aged 25-35 years stormed the Kotekkal Agricultural Cooperative Bank on KC Road in Kotekkal, Mangaluru, and made away with gold and precious articles.

Armed with pistols, swords, and knives, and wearing masks, the gang threatened bank’s employees in Hindi.

After stealing gold jewellery and other precious articles, worth Rs 10-12 crore, they fled in a black Fiat.

A special police team has been formed to investigate the case, and video surveillance footage from the bank is being analysed. Police are yet to identify the accused.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed strong displeasure over the incident, especially as the robbers could get away with it easily. An emergency meeting was convened with senior police officials, including Western Police Senior Inspector Amit, Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal and SP Yathish.

Siddaramaiah wondered how the culprits managed to evade arrest despite police presence at the scene. “We will step up security at all toll plazas and review CCTV footage, especially near the Kerala border and check posts in four districts to thwart such attempts,” he said.
