Another student from Ashram school dies after a fatal fall in Asifabad

Another inmate of a tribal residential school died after a book rack collapsed on him in the hostel. He was the fourth student to die in the last two years in Asifabad residential schools

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A student from a tribal welfare school died, when iron boxes containing books and a bench, fell on him while playing with a swing in his hostel at Panapatar village on Friday. It is the fourth such incident reported at Ashram school in the erstwhile Adilabad district in the last two years.

Officials said that Durwa Anwesh (10), a Class IV student sustained serious head injuries in the incident. He was rushed to a government hospital in Jainoor, where he was declared dead. He was playing with the swing tied to two benches at the time of the incident.


The student’s father Durva Jangu alleged that negligence of officials caused the death of his son. He demanded a probe and action against the officials. He said that Anwesh could have survived, if the officials monitored the students after school time.

Three students die in 2024

On December 25, 2024, Athram Parvathi (12) died at her home soon after returning from a hospital. She was a student of tribal welfare school in Rashimetta village.

On November 25 same year, Choudari Shailaja, a Class IX student of Ashram school in Wankidi who was hospitalised due to food poisining and died while being treated at NIMS in Hyderabad.

Earlier, Madavi Gangothri (11), a Class IX student of another Ashram school in Indervelli died on October 26. She was admitted to a primary health centre in Indervelli after taking ill owing to alleged food poisoning at the hostel
