Hyderabad: The process of creating an Anti-Narcotics Wing in the Telangana Police to deal with the drug menace has started and soon it will become functional, said DGP M Mahender Reddy.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has recently at a meeting asked the police to create an exclusive wing with 1,000 personnel to deal with the drug menace in the state.

Speaking at the launch of Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) and Narcotics Investigation Supervision Wing (NISW) at the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate here on Wednesday, Mahender Reddy said the process of identifying the officers to supervise the functioning is already underway.

“The proposal will be soon sent to the state government. The wing will work exclusively only on curbing drug menace across Telangana and work in coordination with other government departments,” he said.

The focus now is on shaping the wing so as to make its work successful from first day of its launch. “It will be engaged in all related activities, right from intelligence gathering, enforcement work to court cases,” he said

The drug mafia is an organized syndicate and the Anti-Narcotics Wing will be trained to take them on with iron fist. “All available latest technology, vehicles and training will be provided for the personnel. We aim to stay ahead of the drug syndicates to strike at them and break the networks,” the DGP said.

Help of other departments will be taken and they will be involved in creating awareness, welfare and other activities.
