Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday laid the foundation through virtual mode from here for construction of 14 new medical colleges in the state.
These new medical colleges are coming up at Piduguralla, Machilipatnam, Vizianagaram, Anakapalle, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Palakollu, Eluru, Bapatla, Markapuram, Madanapalle, Penugonda, Nandyala and Adoni.
Already, work is in progress at Pulivendula and Paderu where the stone is laid for new medical colleges earlier.
Plans were afoot to complete the construction work of all the 16 medical colleges in three years, the Chief Minister revealed, addressing participants at various centres through video conference in the morning.
“We are spending about Rs.8,000 crore for construction of medical colleges which are being built with the aim to extend quality health care to the poor. Apart from these medical colleges, we are setting up 500-bedded hospitals. The new medical colleges will have all the modern facilities. Already, we are changing the face of all government hospitals under the `Nadu-Nedu’ programme in order to get national accreditation. Private hospitals willing to invest Rs.100 crore in three years will be allotted five acres of land free of cost in district headquarters and corporations. YSR Village Clinic will be set up in every village and each mandal will have two primary health centres,” he disclosed.
The Chief Minister also said that five multi-speciality hospitals are being set up in tribal areas at a cost of Rs.246 crore. Significant changes were made in the YSR Aarogyasri scheme to cover as many as 2,436 treatments, he said, adding that treatment costs exceeding Rs.1,000 were also covered under the scheme.
He said chronic patients were being provided pension ranging from Rs.3,000 to Rs.10,000 and COVID treatment was also brought under Arogyasri. Of late, Black Fungus treatment was also included in the scheme and Rs.5,215 crore was spent in the past two years by the Arogyasri trust, he revealed.
