Hyderabad: The wrangling in the affairs of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) between president Mohammed Azharuddin and the Apex Council has gone from bad to worse. The Apex Council in their show-cause notice to the president said that he had lowered the association’s dignity and prestige before the other State Cricket Associations and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in particular. “Therefore, the Apex Council is left with no option but to issue the Show Cause Notice, setting out the below mentioned details.’’
In a five-page letter, the Apex Council even said Azharuddin was guilty of not informing of his retirement from first class game. It required a five years lapse period before contesting an election from the time he informs the Hyderabad Cricket Association and the BCCI about his retirement. “As you are aware, a period of five years should have lapsed for you to contest an election from the time of you informing the Hyderabad Cricket Association and the BCCI about your retirement.
“You had addressed a letter to the Secretary, of the Hyderabad Cricket Association on 14.12.2019 requesting inter alia to inform the BCCI about your retirement from active cricket from 03.06.2000, when you had played your last one-day international match. It is evident from the said letter that you have not informed the BCCI or the Hyderabad Cricket Association about your retirement from active cricket prior to 14.12.2019.’’
The Apex Council charged Azharuddin of deliberately stalling all the financial transactions and commitments of the association. “You had addressed a letter dated 11.04.2021 to the Canara Bank, Dilsuknagar, Hyderabad, where the Hyderabad Cricket Association maintain its account, requesting it to freeze the operations of the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s Current Account No.117921507 until further instructions from the President only. You had falsely stated in the said letter that you are one of the two signatories for operating the said account.
‘’It is apparent from the said letter that you had deliberately tried to stall all financial transactions and commitments of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and cripple the Apex Council from discharging its financial obligations. ‘’
The Apex Council also stated that appointment of Justice Deepak Verma as an Ombudsman was illegal and unlawful. “You had illegally and unlawfully and in an unauthorized and dictatorial fashion tried to foist Justice Deepak Verma as an Ombudsman to the Hyderabad Cricket Association and unilaterally fixed his remuneration. The said illegal act speaks volumes of your dictatorial and autocratic functioning going against the collective will of the General Body, who had appointed Justice Nisar Ahmed Kakru as Ombudsman and Justice Meena Kumari as Ethics Officer.’’
Azharuddin, according to the Apex Council, illegally and unlawfully violated established norms by having a parallel inward section to serve his self-interest.
The Apex Council pointed out secretary of the HCA is the custodian of all records as per Rule 7(3)(c) of the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of the Hyderabad Cricket Association. “In utter violation of the said Rule, you have highhandedly taken away the Attendance Register and the Identity Card Register of the General Body of Members of the HCA, for which a letter dated 10.05.2021 was addressed to you. You had miserably failed to comply with said letter.’’
The Apex Council further said Azharuddin grossly refused and neglected to comply with the provisions of the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and the Rules of conduct framed by the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
“Therefore they asked Azharuddin to reply to the notice within seven days. “The Office Bearers of the Hyderabad Cricket Association are therefore issuing the above Show Cause Notice to you calling for your explanation within 7 days of the date of receipt of this notice, failing which, the Apex Council would initiate action in accordance with its Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations-2018.’’
